Welcome to AnySomewhere!

started out in early 2011 as my way to publish articles about my travels around Indonesia. Having lived in one small corner of South East Asia’s largest country for several years, I felt it was time to do some exploring and wanted a way to share my experiences with others, while also offering useful advice for travellers.

As well as writing about my travel experiences around Indonesia from Bukit Lawang in North Sumatra to Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, I have published articles about culture and etiquette in the area where I lived, Central Java, and have written articles about other countries of South East Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia.

In 2012, I began my studies as a PhD student in South East Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore. My journey as an expat student in Singapore, which is ideally located for visiting many parts of South East Asia, led me to visit Malaysia and Thailand, as well as exploring Singapore herself.

Now, in mid-2016, having taken a short hiatus from blogging I haven’t, however, stopped travelling. I’ve been back and forth between Singapore and Indonesia many times over the past couple of years, and recently visited Thailand for the fourth time. Hopefully one day soon I’ll have time to share my stories with you.

See you on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Google+,

  1. Hi Rachel – good to read your blog and be reminded of my trips around Sumatra. Siti Nurbaya is generally understood to be the first modern Indonesian novel, by the Minang author Marah Rusli, published in 1922 (or 21, can’t remember). It is pretty much a standard text, and while a bit slow is still a good read – you should be able to get a copy in Gramedia, or certainly in decent book market.

  2. Hi Rachel, nice blog you have here, I enjoy every article you wrote 🙂
